Gender equalityThe issues we addresss stem from deeply entrenched discriminatory beliefs about women and girls. These beliefs deny women and girls their autonomy and decision-making capacity, excluding them from positions of power, as well as leaving them vulnerable to gender-based violence.
Modern Slavery & TraffickingGender discrimination and lack of education can leave women & girls vulnerable to slavery and exploitation by traffickers. In Nepal, women and girls are trafficked into the adult entertainment industry, sold into brothels, or forced into labour, domestic servitude and marriage. |
Lack of educationGender inequality and deeply entrenched discriminations limits the education opportunities available to women and girls. Young girls are less likely to receive an education than boys, and if they do, less likely to make it to secondary school.
Institutional CareInstitutional care can be detrimental to the physical, social and emotional well-being of a trafficking survivor. Lack of long-term, consistent caregivers, autonomy and individualised care can further traumatise survivors, who have already been denied the nurturing environment needed to develop healthy relationships, social skills and emotional resilience. |
When women and girls are denied their freedom and subjected to violence it is a drag on development for everyone.
It creates immense profits for a select few while denying millions the opportunity to contribute as productive and equal members of society. Gender-based violence leads to significant public health burdens, exacerbated inequality and intergenerational poverty. |
Equipping women and girls with tools and opportunities to lead lives of freedom and equality benefits everyone.
Investing in women and girls’ education and employment pathways not only empowers them to determine their futures, but is a country’s greatest opportunity to achieve multi-generational prosperity. |
