Our story

Australian's who met while working together on projects in Nepal.

Project Didi Australia is a small organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls in Nepal affected by trafficking, abuse and those at risk.

Namaste!

We began when we, Australians, Fiona, Leonie and Sarah, met while working together over several years on projects in Nepal: in children's homes, girls' homework centres and women's literacy and business development.

We discovered we share a passion for Nepal and its people and a vision to meaningfully contribute and create lasting change.  We were also learning a lot. With our increasing understanding of the complex issues involved in effective aid, volunteering and in children's homes and institutional living we decided to form, Project Didi Australia. We decided to focus on programs for exploited, abused and at-risk women and girls and to work with established and proven organisations in Nepal.

Project Didi Australia was registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) in 2014.

We chose Didi which means older sister in Nepali and is both an affectionate and respectful term. It reflects our belief that women can best direct their own change when given the resources. Ours is intentionally a collaborative and supportive role, working with partners in Nepal.

We've grown and developed in our few short years but remain targeted and effective. As we've understood the complex needs of trauma victims and the value of a family upbringing, we've broadened our original focus from education to holistic support and family reintegration and home care.

It's an enormously rewarding journey, meeting and working with amazing people, watching women and girls grow, strengthen, achieve, and succeed.  We feel privileged to be involved.

We and our skilled volunteers are self funded. We sustain our work solely through fundraising events and generous donations with 100% of our funds going to our programs in Nepal.
