Project Didi Australia

OUR MISSION, VALUES, APPROACH AND FUNDING

OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION

We strive for futures of hope, dignity, and independence for survivors of trafficking and abuse. We achieve this by partnering with locally led organisations in Nepal to support women and girls to reclaim their lives after violence and by raising awareness and advocating for action to end gender-based violence & modern slavery with our community in Australia.

OUR VALUES

We work with well established, reputable organisations in Nepal, specialists in trauma-informed care with over 10 years of experience supporting women and girls.

We provide survivors of trafficking and violence with the support, tools and opportunities they need to lead self-determined lives.

We raise awareness and advocate for action to end gender-based violence & modern slavery with our community in Australia.

OUR APPROACH

Didi means older sister in Nepal and is a term of respect. Our name is representative of the role we play in Nepal, one guided by listening, learning and empowering.

We take a zero tolerance approach to exploitation, harrasment and abuse. The wellbeing of survivors is at the centre of our work and we aim to actively engage survivors and young people in the decision-making that impacts their lives. We work closely with our partners in Nepal to provide the safest possible environment for the children and adults we support, acknowledging the impacts of trauma, gender, caste and poverty on vulnerability to exploitation.

All our board, volunteers and local partners in Nepal adhere to a Safeguarding Policy.
 Download the policy below.
Our Safeguarding Policy
Pulled from my mother’s side,
To pay a debt that was not my own.
My village fades into the distance,
But I walk forward,
Bent on the promise of a good job in the city,
Where I can send my riches home.

I don’t know where we are,
Or where I am going.
We reach a city that is fast and dirty,
No golden rooftops in sight.
I am scared of my new aunty who beats me,
She is not like my mother at home.

Then the men come,
One-by-one, heavy on top of me.
Too many trusts broken that lead me here,
Hope dwindles to the dimmest of lights.
Deceived and diminished I lie there.

A ruined woman,
Who has brought shame to her family,
Who will not take her back.
No escape, and worse, nowhere to go,
You must wait for a twist of fate to save you.
