Our COVID-19 response

We've spent 6 years, working with our partner in Nepal,
to support women and girls in crisis.

Your support is needed now more than ever.
31% of Nepal's population are at risk of falling
into extreme poverty with COVID-19.

Make a donation

Project Didi Australia is a partner for Project J1082N with Global Development Group (ABN 57 102 400 993).
Tax deductible receipts for gifts over $2 with a preference for this project will be issued by GDG.
If funds raised exceed the requirement for this project, funds may be directed to another approved activity. Please note, no non-development (evangelistic, political or welfare) activities are a part of, or funded by, GDG projects. For more information please visit www.gdg.org.au.

For already disadvantaged women and girls the impact of COVID-19 will be devastating and far reaching.

Our partner has had much of their funding frozen or withdrawn. Our trips to Nepal, our main fundraising avenue, have been cancelled. Counselling and social work services have been disrupted. Many of the women we support have lost their only source of income.
We've committed to supporting 171 women and girls through this crisis.

$123,000
is needed to get them through the challenges of the next year.

COVID-19: The perfect storm for trafficking

The global pandemic magnifies the challenges already facing women in Nepal - entrenched discrimination, exploitation and limited employment opportunities.
Picture
Loss of income
Women are over-represented in the informal sector, where they are without labour protections, such as sick leave.
Picture
Few safety nets
Women are less likely to have had the opportunity to build savings to fall back on during hardship.
Picture
Forced into risky work
Once lockdown lifts, women, in desperate need of work, may be forced into exploitative employment or migrate abroad through risky channels.
Picture
Disruption to
schooling
Children without access to technology or parents who are unable to support their learning will particularly struggle.
Picture
Increased gender-based violence
Economic stress and restricted movement exacerbates violence against women.
Picture
Less access to support services
Loss of funding and disruption to anti-trafficking prevention and protection efforts.
